The annual fall book fair is history.  The elementary library was able to purchase 52 new books from the fair.  The usual favorites, Captain Underpants books by Dav Pilkey, Dear Dumb Diary books by Jim Benton, a five-book series called Infinity Ring by 5 different authors, several Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne, several Fancy Nancy books by Jane O'Connor, Diary of a Wimpy Kid books by Jeff Kinney, the latest Junie B., First Grader book by Barbara Park, Emeraldicious by Victoria Kann, and Jabba the Puppett by Tom Angleberger were among the books on our purchase list.  Mrs. Wanda Torkleson was in charge of the book fair that was held in the library.  Library assistant Diana Rodriguez help supervise the fair during open hours.
We hope you and your child were able to add to your home library with books purchased at the B-K Book Fair!

The JH/HS library media center has been the site for MAP testing for 7-12 students recently.  The computers are used to complete the tests administered by library assistant Shirley McLaughlin and teaching staff.

Giddy-Up!

We're back in the saddle again!  Well, we're almost to Labor Day with 2 weeks under our belt!

This past spring Diana and I (plus other helpers  - Lori E., Kim B., and some volunteers) :)completed an inventory and weeding project of the elementary library collection.  I worked on the collection during June.  Many books were weeded due to age, non-use, and damage.  They were offered to the staff and then to the students.

Much to my surprise, Trish informed me this fall that a new library automation system (Destiny) was purchased for the 2 school media centers!  What a relief!  I had started to notice some glitches.  I use Destiny at the school I'm shared with (WH) so this system is not new to me.  There were some problems at the beginning of the school year but things seem to be working now.

Most of the elementary classes have been in to check out books.  It's always fun to see the new faces. I'm reminded of how fast children grow when I look at the familiar students.  My!  Some kids change over the summer!

Over the summer I attended a class on the AEA 267's new resource called Mackin VIA.  It offers e-books for all students plus other valuable study-aid features.  Please contact me if you would like to know more about this resource.

STAFF: Diana Rodriguez is the library aide in the PK-6 LMC and Shirley McLaughlin is the supervising library aide in the 7-12 LMC building.  I will be in the district 1-2 times a week.

Please contact me if you have any questions or suggestions at Theresa.Reiter@bkcsd.org.

Until next time....  READ EVERY DAY!
